Meet Jean

For over a decade, I’ve worked with seniors and older adults living with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, supporting their care needs and filling their days with therapeutic activity, good times and laughter. Their wisdom, life experience and stories have inspired in me a passion for helping seniors to live their best life.

My vision for Brighten My Day is to make seniors’ lives a little brighter through life enrichment, companionship and preservation of their remarkable life stories. I’m told I make a difference in their lives. Without a doubt, these seniors and older adults have made a difference in mine and I continue to honour them by bringing joy, meaning and a sense of purpose to their everyday lives.

I hold a diploma in Activation Co-ordination/Gerontology, a B.A. degree, and have writing experience gained in a previous professional career as an editor. While educational experience is invaluable, the most rewarding moments in my career have come when working on the front line of caregiving, walking alongside seniors and their families on their daily journey with dementia at a social-recreational adult day program in Toronto.

When not enjoying the company of amazing seniors, I’m busy combing weekend garage sales for vintage treasures, trying out new recipes, gardening, knitting and being creative.

Theodor Seuss Geisel (known to most as Dr. Seuss) said that “sometimes you will never know the value of a moment, until it becomes a memory”. How true. At Brighten My Day, I’m dedicated to making every moment a bright and beautiful memory for seniors and their families.

Jean
