Moments that matter

We’ll spend quality time together, rediscovering favourite pastimes, engaging the senses, exercising mind and body, enjoying music, art and nature, reliving sweet memories and making new ones. Getting to know a senior’s personality and unique life story is what Brighten My Day does best.

If a loved one is living with dementia and would benefit from specialized memory care therapies, we will adapt and design activities that provide meaningful life enrichment tailored to the person’s changing abilities.

Life Enrichment and Companionship Services

Loneliness and social isolation often affect seniors’ physical and emotional well-being, especially when life circumstances change. Brighten My Day offers peace of mind to families and working caregivers who are unable to spend as much time as they’d like with a senior parent, spouse or friend. We’ll visit with a loved one in the comfort of their home, retirement or long-term care community and make their day a memorable one.

Meet Jean

For 15 years, I’ve worked with seniors and older adults living with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia - supporting their care needs, celebrating their life stories, filling their days with therapeutic activity to make their lives a little brighter.

I spent much of my professional career as an editor but later went on to fulfill a passion for working with seniors. After receiving a diploma in Activation Co-ordination/Gerontology in 2011, I embarked on a rewarding second career, working on the front line of caregiving, at a social-recreational adult day program for Toronto seniors living with dementia.

In 2018, recognizing the need for one-on-one life enrichment in the long-term care setting, Brighten My Day was born. I channelled my expertise, experience and creativity into providing private life enrichment and companionship services to families and working caregivers seeking to keep their senior loved ones meaningfully engaged.

I currently offer Brighten My Day services in the Newcastle and Bowmanville area, while also enjoying creative interests including knitting, crocheting, gardening, trying out new recipes and combing weekend garage sales for vintage treasures.

“Keep that twinkle in your wrinkle” is what I often say to the seniors and older adults I spend time with. I’m told I brighten their day. Without a doubt, they brighten mine!

Jean
